Mechanical Vacuum Boosters for MVR Evaporators & ZLD Plants

High-Capacity Vacuum Solutions for Evaporation, Concentration & Zero Liquid Discharge Systems

Respondent Precision Engineering Pvt. Ltd. (RPE) manufactures Mechanical Vacuum Boosters for demanding industrial vacuum applications, including MVR Evaporators, Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) Plants, Multiple Effect Evaporators, Concentrators and Crystallization Systems.

RPE Mechanical Vacuum Boosters are available in a wide capacity range and can be engineered as part of the vacuum system according to the required operating pressure, non-condensable gas load, process vapors, evaporator capacity and backing vacuum pump.

Mechanical Vacuum Boosters in MVR Evaporators

What is an MVR Evaporator?

MVR – Mechanical Vapor Recompression is an energy-efficient evaporation technology used to concentrate process liquids and industrial effluents.

During the evaporation process, vapor generated from the liquid is mechanically recompressed and reused as a heating medium.

Many MVR evaporation systems operate under controlled vacuum conditions to achieve the required evaporation temperature and process performance.

A properly engineered vacuum system helps:

  • Establish the required vacuum during start-up
  • Maintain the required process pressure
  • Remove non-condensable gases
  • Handle vacuum leakage and residual vapor loads
  • Maintain stable operating conditions inside the evaporator

This is where an RPE Mechanical Vacuum Booster, working together with a suitable backing vacuum pump and process protection equipment, can be used.

Role of RPE Mechanical Vacuum Booster in an MVR System

The Mechanical Vacuum Booster is installed as part of the vacuum support system of the evaporator.

When correctly selected, the booster can provide a high volumetric pumping capacity at reduced pressures and assist the backing vacuum pump in maintaining the required process vacuum.

Main Functions

  • High pumping capacity at low operating pressures
  • Faster evacuation during system start-up
  • Efficient handling of non-condensable gases
  • Support for maintaining stable evaporator vacuum
  • Reduced load on the backing vacuum pump under suitable operating conditions
  • Improved vacuum-system response
  • Suitable for continuous industrial operation

Important: The RPE Mechanical Vacuum Booster used in the vacuum system is separate from the main MVR vapor compressor. The MVR compressor recompresses process vapor, while the vacuum booster forms part of the vacuum-maintenance system.

Typical MVR Vacuum System Arrangement

A typical arrangement can be represented as:

MVR Evaporator / Vapor Space

Vapor Separator / Condenser

Knock-Out Pot / Moisture Separator

RPE Mechanical Vacuum Booster

Backing Vacuum Pump

Discharge

Vacuum-System Function

The MVR Evaporator generates the vacuum load.

The Condenser / Vapor Separator removes the majority of condensable vapor.

The Knock-Out Pot / Moisture Separator helps protect downstream vacuum equipment from liquid carryover.

The RPE Mechanical Vacuum Booster provides high volumetric pumping capacity at the required vacuum level.

The Backing Vacuum Pump provides the necessary backing pressure for operation of the Mechanical Vacuum Booster.

Mechanical Vacuum Boosters in ZLD Plants

Zero Liquid Discharge – ZLD

Zero Liquid Discharge systems are designed to recover water from industrial wastewater while concentrating dissolved solids so that little or no liquid effluent is discharged from the plant.

A typical ZLD system may include:

  • Pre-treatment
  • RO / membrane systems
  • MVR Evaporator
  • Multiple Effect Evaporator
  • Forced Circulation Evaporator
  • Concentrator
  • Crystallizer
  • Centrifuge
  • Condensate recovery system
  • Vacuum system

Vacuum equipment can play an important role in the evaporation and concentration stages of the ZLD process.

Where RPE Mechanical Vacuum Boosters Can Be Used

RPE Mechanical Vacuum Boosters can be considered for vacuum systems associated with:

MVR Evaporators
